Tech Committee Meeting Minutes
3_23_2006
Attending: Diane Stacey, Tom Walz, Jeff Maher, Karen
Baron, Ric Nudell, Linda McSweeney, Scott Griggs, John Pandolfo
1. Linda McSweeney briefly introduced conversation
going on in the Freshman Academy Committee centered around the technology
component. She will give a more detailed report at our next meeting.
2. Tommy detailed the role of the K-12 Technology
integration committee, whose main charge is district-wide technology
integration. The current year’s focus has been grades 8 & 9. Currently our
campus is represented by Abby Hinsman and Linda McSweeney. In dealing with
meeting state grade-level expectations, Jeff recommended that we agree to
campus “power standards”, narrowing the expectations down to clear areas of
focus.
Tommy
raised the point and discussion followed as to the overlap of multiple
committees in the area of technology. Ideas to deal with this are
·
include this
committee’s staff development day meetings on the agenda of the K-12
integration committee’s schedule.
·
committees share
minutes: It was noted that information from this committee along with other
design committees is available on our website.
3. Budget process and history:
Tommy
explained where we arrived at the current budget structure, with the reality
that technology in the SHS part of campus is underfunded. Budgets come to Tommy
by department. He then makes significant
cuts to the requests to match the district policy of replacing equipment every
5 years. He recognizes that 3 years would be the better approach. Tommy
introduced a practical cost saving strategy to stop purchasing inkjet printers,
instead going to all laser printers.
Jeff
recommended that this committee look at developing a 3-5 year priority-based
technology plan.
Next Meeting: Thursday, April 27th-
Respectfully,
Scott Griggs
