Instruction Committee Minutes

March 6, 2006

 

In attendance:  Elizabeth Wigren; George Drew; Heather Blakely; Mya Vallerand;

Katie Sedore; Riki Tompson

 

  • Meeting was called to order with welcomes and introductions
  • E. Wigren reviewed the agenda and distributed a hard copy 1st draft of a Substitute and Teacher Handbook for Spaulding High School and Technical Center
  • The group was updated on the draft’s intentions, objectives, and progress as they reviewed the document.
  • Next steps for a “finished” draft for May implementation were highlighted.

a.       continue gathering map, fire procedure, phone list, etc.

b.      strengthen and tighten language

c.       clarify sign out procedure

d.      gather more examples and directives concerning student behavior

e.       clarify and outline teacher expectations

f.        create template of sub plan format on shared drive

  • The group discussed and developed the draft further

a.       troubleshooting guide from library (DVD, TV, etc.)

b.      guidelines for passes, phone…

c.       teacher expectations: seating charts, room rules, clarify test/quiz taking directions (notes or no notes), contact teacher for sub, passes and forms, warning list(?), student accommodations (as necessary)

d.      substitute training and orientation day at beginning of each semester

e.        “I have read and agree to follow procedures outlined in the SHS&BTC handbook” statement and signature on application form for substitutes

f.        continue to work and discussions with Substitute Coordinator and building substitutes

 

  • The Group outlined next steps and next meeting

a.       E. Wigren will discuss examples and actions for student behavior with Tome Sedore and Dennis Hill

b.      Mya Vallerand will collect data for tailored phone list
