Driscoll, N. Ransom
Meeting
began with introduction of new/old members. Reviewed the
05-06 year-end report. No corrections made. Reviewed goals as previously
discussed at last meeting with addition of another goal: Collaboration/communication of U61 SHAC
teams. Members expressed desire to have some members of BT team attend meeting,
especially S. Barnard &/or L. Thygesen. Discussed need to alternate meeting
times between before and after school to accommodate district members. Reviewed draft of wellness policy. Addition of physical
education made to 1. C under goals for nutrition education.
Discussion took place regarding wording of adequate time for meals as some
lunch lines long. Concern also raised with shortage of
food by the start of 5th lunch. Having a 5th lunch module
raised concerns about the availability of bake sales during TA. Many wondering
if we can have bake sales since the last lunch module has not been served yet.
Also, wondering if bake sales can be held in the lobby even after school if no
food is allowed outside of the cafeteria. Those concerns will be addressed with
administrative/leadership team.
The
amount of physical activity required of students is of concern as PE credit for
graduation can be achieved all during freshman year with nothing happening
after that., Before/after school activities through
EPSDT funding may provide some alternatives for activity. It is unclear at this
time when those programs will be offered.
PHIT
club has funding approval and leader being sought for spring boys club. Female group to start this fall with J. Carpenter leading the
group. Advertising to start this week.
School-wide
wellness day is being planned for October 12th. Group began
discussing/planning for activities. A motivational speaker during this day
would be desirable but it was felt that TA time would not be long enough. Group
felt that an activity day schedule, if possible, in the spring could allow for
this to happen.
