School Health Advisory Committee
Present: Lola Noyes, Lu Turmel,
Kathy Gardner, Coralie Collins, Tom Treece, Shaun Driscoll, Jesse Carpenter, Shannon Friel, Bryan Hirschman, Miranda O’Neill (arrived 8AM),

Mtg began
Meeting began with
introductions. Highlights of work done last year discussed. Discussed need for subcommittee to follow-up
on cafeteria oversight to ensure compliance with the nutrition policy adopted
6/2005.
New Business:
1. Fit Club -
Jesse Carpenter led a group in the spring.
Had 16 students
enrolled. Six
students completed the program successfully over the
fifteen weeks and received PE credit. Are in hopes of offering a
female group again this fall and male group in the spring.
Funding
sources being investigated.
Nancy Lynn, Jesse Carpenter, and Katelyn
Foster,
student, met with the boosters club to ask for funding. Group
willing to grant $1,000 for materials only and divided
between two groups. Facilitators needing to clarify whether the funds could also be used
as stipends for guest speakers.
Other possible sources being explored:

Lions Club
Children’s Trust Fund
National Life
NSB
Altrussa
Club
Barre Elks
Jesse
reports will need $3,800 to run both groups.
2. NECI - Tom
willing to follow-up with Marc Sinclair who spoke with NECI
last year when discussed having them come and provide
healthy foods
demonstration for students and ? samples.
3. Fall Hike -
Discussed having an employee hike for anyone interested.

4. Stress
Reduction Activities:
Discussed consideration of a school-wide healthy activity. Group
wondered if we could get a 1/2 day for next year. Brainstormed having
keynote speaker in AM followed by organized physical
activities of
various levels of intensity.

tennis night, blood pressure and cholesterol screening,
night skiing, organized trip to

Gardening/Composting -
Tom
spoke with Tom Sabo and discussed how another group built a
greenhouse. He will
speak with Tom to discuss their funding sources. Discussed how group feels there
needs to be close working
relationship with the Tech Center Food Trades.
