School Health Advisory Committee

5/18/06

Present: Lu Turmel, Jessie Carpenter, Nancy Lynn, Kathy Gardner, Lola Noyes

Discussed tobacco and substance abuse policies being updated/drafted.

Concerns: 1) Need to collaborate with school climate committee re: suspensions.

2) Need to clarify if separate tobacco policy is needed beyond substance abuse policy as per ACT 55 from the '97 legislature.

3) Clarification of consequences needed of tech center students - does their own district policy supercede our policy?

4) Feedback from Sue C regarding conversation with Matt Myers

Next steps:

Nancy will check with Tom regarding outcome of conversation with athletic director and invite to next meeting

Kathy will check with B. Phillips and discuss tech center concerns

Lola will check with climate committee chair and invite to next week's mtg. And provide them with a draft of policy. Inquire with climate committee to see if the wording of the consequences resulting in suspension match.
