Meeting began
Dawn indicates that the department of education has a new
draft model policy available that combines policy for alcohol, tobacco, and
substances. This draft
model policy in expected to be adopted and in place by the fall of 2006.
Dawn encourages us to consider combining our two separate policies on this
issue into one. Our current policy on tobacco was last adopted
Tom spoke with Jeff who reports that ACT 51 is required by the state for faculty to have within their first two years of employment. It is recommended, not required, periodically after that. (Initial training is two days and reviews are one day according to Dawn).
August 18th and 21st are training dates for ACT 51 if anyone is interested per Dawn.
Dawn reports that she is prepared to present for community offerings as needed for education to parents .
Tom Roberge to speak with Shawn Wood, athletic director, regarding the new draft model policy and get feedback from him on consequences as it is currently worded.
Other comments: Need to have language regarding offering of TEG program in new policy. Information needs to be shared with Dennis Hill and Tom Sedore. Sue Chickering will check with Matt Myers to see if this policy is being required or can we make some changes in the language. She will also ask if there have been any changes to this draft of January 2005. Lola will provide members with copy of the current alcohol/substance abuse policy for review.
