Minutes

Present:  J. Desmarais, J. Pandolfo, S. Garcia, P. Ward, I. Gillander, S. Calcagni, J. Higgins, J. Howell, M. Miranda-O’Neill, Guests: D. Singer, D. Buzzi

1.  Review of the charge to the committee:  Improve communications within the school and between the school and the community.

2.  It was suggested that a new inventory be conducted to see how many teachers have access to the network and to the internet in their classrooms.  Jerry asked about the use of the school webpage.

80% of those present had visited the webpage in the past.

60% used it to find out today’s schedule.

40% have consulted the Web Event calendar.

Jerry suggested that the goal of individual teacher webpages be lowered on the list of priorities as few teachers have expressed interest in creating them.

3.  A major goal for the year is to find new sources for campus news, “inputs” as it were.  J. Higgins suggested that it needs to be the responsibility of one person (possibly CSL) to go to people and ask one-on-one if there is any news to report.

4.  Should we pursue the idea of a radio show?  It was agreed that BOB would contact Harry Daniels again about such a show.  Jim Higgins suggested a call in Q&A format would be more likely to attract an audience than interviews of school personnel.

5.  We discussed the possibility of airing the Friday Show on local access cable.  It was decided to table the idea until students become more comfortable with the process.  Suggestion was made to put together “The Best of the Friday Show.”

6.  Brainstorming session of  current newsworthy issues at SHSBTC:

  • The Friday Show
  • Standardized Test Results
  • Cosmetology expansion
  • Daycare expansion
  • Travel auction
  • Relief money for hurricane victims
  • Update on club activities
