Mr. Stapleford

Mr. Stapleford's 6th Grade Class

Mr. Stapleford makes learning so much fun. We call Mr. Stapleford Mr. S.  Mr. S. teaches math, social studies, reading, writing, and teaches about computers.
We have specials all week Monday through Thursday. We have library and computer on Monday, and spanish on Tuesday, Art and gym on Wednesday, and music computer on Thursday.  We have no specials on Friday, we have time to do home room stuff.
Every year we go on many field trips around Vermont.  We had Conservation Field Days at Addison Field Days. We went around to many different stations and did experiments and games about the environment. We went to the Calvin Coolidge Homestead this October. It was a cool field trip, the General Store was awesome with all its candy. They sold a drink called Moxie that tastes almost like cough medicine. Some students thought that it tasted great and others thought it was disgusting.   They sold candy sticks 8 for a $1. We also got to go on the Lois McClure, a canal schooner that was built this year. We toured the boat and learned what it was like to work on a boat during that time. They had found a boat that had crashed on the breakwaters near Burlington called the General Butler and they based the Lois McClure on that boat and another boat called the O.J. Walker. We are really looking forward to our big spring field trip that we will be going to Canada for a week.
We have our own mini tech room that includes many different systems We have 3 laptops, 5computers, a wireless conection, and a Smartboard.  This year  we will have fun learning about all this stuff! A SMART Board is a big screen that shows the computer screen, you use your hand to control the mouse, then you just do all your work on the screen.
Our favorite sports are, in order: baseball, football, basketball, hockey, Nascar, Olympics, and soccer. Our favorite teams are the Red Sox, Patriots,  Eagles, Cubs, Canadians,  and Celtics.
Sixth graders also play a lot of sports such as soccer, hockey, basketball, baseball, and softball.   The sports that we watch are the sports that we play and football.
Every Monday and Thursday, Mr. Stapleford plays football with us at recess. In the winter we play Prison Ball, and in the spring we play baseball with a tennis ball and tennis racket. Also we play hockey in the spring.  Every Tuesday at recess, Ms. Wilson plays soccer with us and is very fun.
Two times a year, we do Ms. Wilson's Fitnessgram which consists of the mile run, the pacer, curlups, pullups, pushups, sit and reach, and chinups. Our fastest miles are 6:48 (Sam L.), 7:42 (Daniela S.), and 7:51 (Oakes T.) .
This year we are going to have a blast! Learning is the best when you have Mr. S. FCS is "da bomb" with all the stuff we are going to do this year, we will have the best time of all!
