Ms. Matteson's First Grade

Ms. Matteson is nice.  She has dark brown curly hair. She likes to study all types of bugs. We will have monarch caterpillars in our room. The caterpillars will go to the top of the jar and hang in a "j "shape. The caterpillar turns into a chrysalis and then it will hatch into a monarch butterfly.

We are studying sunflowers. We read books about sunflowers. We had lots of sunflowers in our room. They are not always yellow. Some have bigger seeds than other sunflowers. The black seeds grow the small flowers. The large striped seeds grow the mammoth sunflowers. You can even eat the seeds of a sunflower.

Ms. Matteson likes chocolate! She likes chocolate milk. She likes chocolate candy. The first day of school Ms. Matteson told us she liked chocolate. Every time we bring something chocolate to school, she says "Yummy, chocolate!" On her birthday, we will get to go outside and eat chocolate for the whole school day.

In our room, we have a math center. There are math books. We have number sheets to work on. There are pattern blocks. We have a book that has magnetic pattern blocks. We can build with them.  We also have an independent reading center. There are lots of books that we can read quietly. There are a lot of books and a basket just filled with Eric Carle books. We love Eric Carle. Some books that he wrote are: The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Very Quiet Cricket, The Grouchy Ladybug and The Mixed-Up Chameleon. We also have a basket that is filled with stories about animals. There is a basket that is called All About Me. There are books in there that are all about first graders.
After snack, we have center time. We go to read with different people like Mrs. Babock, Mrs. Brooks and Ms. Matteson.

We have specials in first grade. This is a picture of Mrs. Ross playing her guitar. We like to clap our names with the name chain. We also come to the computer room to see Mrs. Thurber. We come at the end of the day on Friday. We work on the computer. We like the game Bit-Bot. Bit-Bot is a math game that has a submarine and you collect fish for an aquarium. It is a fun way to do math facts.
We also have art class with Mrs. Parsons. We get to work with clay and make sunflowers and other things. We go to the library on Mondays. Mrs. Chamberlin helps us sign out books. She often reads us a story. After we sign out our books, we read them quietly until it is time to go back to class. Twice a week, we have Physical Education with Mrs. Wilson. We call it P.E. If it is nice outside, we have our class outdoors. She has taught us some cool soccer games.

Some of us play soccer after school. We like to play because soccer is fun.
Mrs. Matteson is a very good teacher. First grade is GREAT!
