Ms. Hibbard's Classroom
First and Second Grade

Ms. Hibbard is
a really nice teacher. She has blonde hair with blue eyes. She plays tricks
on us.
She
mixes up the words on the calendar so that the word is not spelled correctly.
She also makes mistakes in the news and waits for us to find the mistakes.
She really likes to teach science. She is kind because she will give us
a recess break during the day besides the regular recess!

Last year's class
planted a tomato patch in the spring. Our job this year is to pick the
tomatoes. We have picked a lot. We take the tomatoes to Mrs. Alexander
to use for cooking. Mrs. Alexander is the lunch lady. She makes delicious
meals with the tomatoes. One of our favorites is rotini with tomato sauce.
We also love the tomato soup! We are going to grow tomatoes again in the
summer and herbs in the winter as part of our pride project.
We have a very nice playground. We
like to swing! There are two tire swings that you can lay back in. There
are a lot of other swings. We have a nice slide. We have monkey bars and
handles that swing. There are also red bars that we can do gymnastics on.
There is a big sandbox. The sand is overflowing, it is like a mountain
of sand. We have a very big wooden boat. The boat has a bridge that connects
the two parts of the boat and a cargo net to climb on. Some of the boys
use the boat as their hide out. There is a small basketball court and tetherball.
We have a teacher that helps us learn
how to handle conflicts. Her name is Ms. Danzig. She comes to our class
and tells us what to do if we have a conflict. We do skits and so do the
teachers!
Mrs. Ross also comes to our classroom
on Friday. She is our music teacher. We sing songs and do freeze dances.
We also get to play with Boomwhackers, they are tubes that you hit the
ground with. A tall Boomwhacker makes a low noise and a short one makes
a high sound.
We go to other rooms for our other
specials. Monday and Wednesday, we go to phys. ed. We have to run around
the whole soccer field in phys. ed. Then we get a ball and start playing
a game. We come to computer lab on Wednesday. We go to art class on Thursday.
Sometimes we start a project in art class, but then we finish it in our
classroom.
We have fifth grade buddies from Ms.
Elson's class. We get to read books with them and do some projects with
them.We even went on a field trip to the Rokeby
Museum with them. We studied animal homes and the fifth graders are
studying the forest.
It is really fun having both grades
in one room. The second graders set a good example for the first graders.
The first graders are learning how to set a good example for next year's
class.
