Ms. Elson's Fifth Grade Class

Ms. Elson is really nice, she lets us use pillows at writing, silent reading, and read aloud.  She lets us go  out to the habitat. We have buddies from Grade 1/2,  and we also had a field trip with them. That's why she is a great teacher.
Something else that makes our class special is our pride project. We are cutting Campbell's Soup Labels. Last year, the class was able to purchase a digital camera for the school with the labels. We have to clip them, count them, and put them in stacks of 500.
The pillow area is special to our class because everybody likes to use the pillows for reading. We have two pink ones, two green ones, one yellow one,  a tiger pillow,  and other colored pillows .

At the beginning of the year, we go on about one field trip per week . We have been on seven field trips so far. As the weather gets colder, we slow down and have them less often.
Grade 1/2 buddies are also fun. You get to hang out with the little kids. We went to the Rokeby Museum with our buddies. We  teach them stuff about nature, reading and writing.
We often go to the school habitat. We learn about forest layers, animals, and animal homes. We also learn about plants and photosynthesis. We also learn about germination and we did an experiment with lima beans.
We do a lot of writing in fifth grade. We also learn how to type and edit our work. We have to write a persuasive piece, a narrative, tales, and other types of writing.
Fifth grade is more fun because we play games like "Zen Master" and " I Love  Applause." We play them at morning meeting. We have morning meeting on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Fifth grade is the best year so far.
